Leigh Eisenman

About Leigh

Leigh Eisenman is an experienced lawyer who has been practicing in New York since 2003. After ten years of practicing in the New York offices of several international law firms, Leigh shifted her focus to the publishing industry. Since then, she has handled publishing and publishing-adjacent agreements and matters on behalf of several agencies and law firms. From 2003 until 2014 she specialized in commercial, white collar, and securities litigation. Leigh received her juris doctorate from the University of Virginia School of Law and graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth College. She serves on the Contracts Committee of the Association of Authors’ Representatives (AAR). She is admitted to practice in New York.

As an agent, Leigh seeks submissions in the areas of literary and upmarket commercial fiction for adults, and is particularly drawn to: flawed protagonists she can’t help but fall in love with (Holden Caulfield was her first crush); stories that transport her through a really vivid, well-defined sense of place, and also those set in contemporary New York; explorations of relationships (including journeys of self-discovery); and of course, excellent writing. On the nonfiction side, Leigh is drawn to illustrated books of all stripes, including cookbooks (especially baking and—maybe conversely—healthy cooking), travel, health and wellness, pop culture, lifestyle, humor/gift, and select narrative nonfiction.

Please don't query Leigh with: sci-fi, fantasy, children's.

Query Instructions

To submit a project, please send a query letter along with a 50-page writing sample (for fiction) or a detailed proposal (for nonfiction). Samples may be submitted as an attachment or embedded in the body of the email.

Please only query one agent at a time; we frequently share interesting submissions within the agency. We prioritize queries addressed to a specific agent; please know that if you elect not to do this (eg, "dear agent"), your query is less likely to be read. A rejection from one agent means a rejection from all agents—please do not resubmit unless your project has been substantially revised, or we’ve requested that you do so.

We do not accept mailed queries. We do not represent screenplays.

Please be advised that due to the large number of queries we receive, it is not always possible for us to respond to every one; we assure you that we are reading your material and will be in touch if we are interested.
