About Matthew
Matthew Carnicelli is an independent editor, literary agent, and publishing strategist specializing in idea-driven nonfiction and quality fiction. He began his publishing career at Dutton, where as an editor he worked with many great writers of fiction, history, and current events, including Christopher Bram, Vice President Al Gore, Judith Warner, Cornel West, and Cathleen Schine. At Contemporary Books and McGraw-Hill, he became enthralled with strong health writing and business and sports books, working with such authors as John Wooden, Victoria Moran, Gail Ferguson, Roland Lazenby, and Robert Kurson.
He became an agent in 2004 in order to have more control over the depth of his work with clients and to focus only in areas that interested him intellectually and creatively, and over the past decade he has represented such notable authors as brain and movement expert Anat Baniel, political pundit Dave "Mudcat" Saunders, fashion designer Marc Ecko, "Meet the Press" moderator Chuck Todd, and graphic novelist Derf Backderf. A big believer in the potential of idea dissemination and publishing beyond the limitations of "legacy" publishing, he now offers private editing and strategic consulting services.
